Mind-Body approaches, including meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, breathing techniques, art, music, and movement are skills that can alleviate stress and foster self-awareness and self-care. The purpose of this elective is to introduce a variety of mind-body medicine modalities to chiropractic students so that they can experience them for themselves and gain insights into their use clinically. The elective will be offered to a maximum of ten first year students per class. Each group will meet for two consecutive hours, once a week for eight weeks with two faculty members who will facilitate the sessions. The students will learn the techniques, practice them, and discuss their experiences with members of the class. Students will have as opportunity for both individual attention and instruction, and sharing what they are learning about mind-body medicine and about themselves. Students are asked to practice the skills taught in class on their own for 20 minutes a day, five days a week and to exercise three days a week. Recommended readings will be distributed.
