As part of our week-long National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) activities, the Center for Teaching and Learning will be posting fun facts about our educational technologies we use to connect with our distance students, faculty and alumni.

Today, we're focusing our attention on Moodle. Did you know that Moodle, UWS's learning management system branded as "webCampus", stands for modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment? When Moodle was first released in 2002, the "M" stood for "Martin's", named after Martin Dougiamas, the original developer. The Moodle developer community is one of the largest open-source teams in the world. Moodle is used by institutions of higher learning, K-12 schools and businesses and works in over 100 languages! There are over 18 million courses in Moodle, 163 million Moodle users and over 1.5 billion quiz questions in Moodle!
