Welcome to Winter Term!

We hope you had a safe and restful holiday break! Winter term begins Monday, January 4. College of Graduate Studies and College of Undergraduate Studies courses will be visible as of Friday, January 1 in the afternoon. Doctor of Chiropractic courses will be available at your instructor’s discretion during the first week of the term.

Over the break, our Moodle host released several updates to our webCampus site. Most of the changes are behind the scenes but there is one major change students will see: Activity due dates are now prominently displayed under the activity description. Due dates that are in the future are highlighted in orange and due dates that are in the past are highlighted in red. Students will also see text showing whether they have submitted their assignment.

For College of Graduate Studies (COGS) courses, we replaced our former plagiarism/similarity checker VeriCite, with a new tool called Turnitin. Turnitin is now enabled for all COGS assignments and forums. Students will be presented with an End User License Agreement (EULA) the first time they encounter the service either by submitting a paper or viewing a plagiarism report.

Turnitin operates “behind the scenes” and there is nothing that students need to do to generate similarity scores. Turnitin's internet repository is larger than VeriCite's and will therefore provide more robust similarity reports. UWS uses this tool to support academic integrity and encourage original student work.

For technical help or questions about your courses, please email studentservices@uws.edu or submit a ServiceHub ticket.

We wish our entire UWS community a safe and successful New Year!
